Our History
CCHERS is a community/academic partnership established in 1991 with a $6 milllion grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation’s Community Partnerships in Health Professions Education Initative. The partnership is comprised of Boston Medical Center, the Boston Public Health Commission, Boston University School of Medicine, Northeastern University Bouvé College of Health Sciences, and a network of 15 community health centers serving the racially and ethnically diverse populations of the City of Boston.
In 1997, CCHERS was incorporated as an independent community-based 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation with a Board of Directors composed of representatives of the universities, hospitals, health centers, and the communities they serve. Working with its partners, CCHERS promotes coordination of services and interagency collaboration among universities, health service providers, community-based organizations, and community residents to create healthier communities.
