Our Mission and Goals


CCHERS' mission is to educate health profession students for careers in primary care in community-based settings through the academic community health center model; to integrate service, education and research; to influence and change health professions education, improve health care delivery, and promote health systems change.

Specifically, CCHERS works to:

  • Support community-based health professions education and health services through partnerships designed to improve the health and wellness of underserved urban populations.

  • Foster the integration of education and research with community service.

  • Educate health professions students in community-based primary care, to improve health care delivery and ensure a continuum of culturally competent services.

CCHERS' Goals are to:

  • Prepare health professionals for primary care practice in underserved, urban communities.

  • Integrate education, research and service in order to improve healthcare delivery and change the model of education for health professionals.

  • Develop models and conduct community-based research focused on issues that impact urban populations.

  • Inform and influence public policy in the areas of health education, community health, and health care access.
